River Island State Park – Parker AZ

Our next move was just down the road from Lake Havasu to Parker Arizona and a park that was on the Colorado River.  We had all ready stayed in Parker earlier in the week but in a casino parking lot but because we enjoyed Cattail Cove so much and the fact that we had to be on the road Christmas day, we decided to take a chance on another State Park that wasn’t too far down the road.

This park was directly off the highway, nestled between two rocky hillsides, so the road noise was a little more noticeable.  ONE thing it did have that we hadn’t had for a while was Wi-Fi so in my downtime, I took advantage of that with updating this blog!

The park had only one hiking trail (Wedge Hill trail) that took you to the top of one of the surrounding rocks.  The trail had a bench seat at the end.  It was a very steep hike and the bench sat on the very ‘edge’ of the rock looking down over the campground!  Very creepy! There was also a beach and launch ramp. Ziggy was happy and was able to swim and chase his ball.

Quite a hike to the top!

One day we drove over the Parker Dam, and while there we saw our first pair of desert bighorn sheep up on the hillside.  It is totally amazing how they can walk and jump on such a steep hillside without falling.  Lord knows no human could move like they do!

Well its time to move on again. We’re headed towards Quartzsite AZ to check out the area and sights.
