Well we have decided that so far, this is our best stay yet on the road. A real hidden gem. We came across this location using the Campendium app and unbeknownst to us, it was a perfect hit! We are still hit & miss with the apps you can use to locate and reserve sites. This one, was a GEM. It was located down a windy road and had water and electric hook ups with a dumping station. Once you were down at the ranger office, you could see Lake Havasu, which was beyond beautiful. Nestled between the rocks, the water looked like the Caribbean, beautiful and clear! The location and people were great. We had a nice site that wasn’t too far from the beach and hiking trails and close to the bath houses. The Rangers, volunteers and visitors were more than welcoming. The site was clean and well run. They did mention that they ‘never get’ a notable amount of rain, but we did experience one day with a deluge.
This campground is near the city of Lake Havasu where they have water craft sporting events that people from all over the world come to participate. Not only that but they have fantastic freshwater fishing tournaments.
It’s known as a base for trails in the nearby desert and water sports on Lake Havasu. London Bridge, relocated from England, links the mainland to marinas and a looped path in an area known as the Island. https://www.golakehavasu.com/
This was a wonderful place to explore and enjoy. We will be back!
Lake Havasu City
London Bridge was originally built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. In 1968, the bridge was purchased from the City of London by Robert P. McCulloch. McCulloch had exterior granite blocks from the original bridge cut and transported to the United States for use in the construction of a new bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community he established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge. The bridge was completed in 1971 (along with a canal), and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City. The “rededication” of the London Bridge took place on October 10, 1971
