On to Arizona – Casino parking lots!

Being ‘relatively new’ to camping on the wide open spaces, we still struggle with selecting and locating an ending point, even with the multitude of camping apps that are available. HOWEVER, we are starting to get the hang of it. That being said, our trip to one of the best spots yet, Cattail Cove State park, included staying in several Casino parking lots. There was no issue with dry camping thanks to Bend Battery and our solar/lithium instal! Who knew you could go to a Casino and not lose any money! It was a free stay! Some of them even offered a dump station and fresh water for a small fee.. VERY small fee! Here are some of the ones we stayed at!

First stop to parts unknown
Spotlight Casino – Coachella CA
Just outside Palm Springs
Traffic was horrible up to this point – approximately 5 hours of 30-40 mph.
Red Earth Casino – Thermal, California
We stayed in this parking lot after driving around the Salton Sea. While the trip was good, it was very depressing to see how much this ‘sea’ had receded and how neglected the area had become. It was one of the world’s largest inland seas and lowest spots on earth at -227 below sea level. It lies on the San Andreas Fault within the Salton Trough that stretches to the Gulf of California in Mexico. It used to be a destination for families for vacations and recreation.
This is the ‘yacht club’ at lake Sultan. No more docks, or tie ups.. all gone. Only birds in the water. Very sad.
BlueWater Casino – Parker AZ
We had a nice visit to this casino, including Ziggy. There was some night time excitement, in that when Chet was walking Ziggy that night, he had two coyotes come up on them. One on each side, but Chet threw rocks and made a lot of noise and they ran off into the lower hills. It was quite a surprise for the two of them. This was just an empty parking lot full of tractor trailers and other campers. They were walking around the perimeter. He didn’t see anymore that night while he was out. Next day, we packed up and to Cattail Cove State Park our next 4 day destination!
